NOTD 11/25/12: Lynnderella Connect the Dots & Essie Butler Please

Happy Sunday, everyone. I'm back at school after Thanksgiving break and decided to kick off the week with a new mani. Here is the famous Lynnderella Connect the Dots over Essie Butler Please.

Two coats Essie, one coat Lynnderella, plus two coats top coat. Flash.
No flash (more color accurate).

Not much to say, I'm feeling lazy. I love both of these polishes, end of story.

NOTD 11/23/12: Essie Leading Lady

Hello! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and Black Friday. This morning was the first time I ever went early Black Friday shopping (well, 7 am was early to me) and it was amazing. I just went to the mall, got so many good deals- no shit- and had a ton of fun. I'll definitely go back next year and every year until I die.

There is actually a manicure I've done and taken pics of between this one and the last one I posted but I'm lazy so I'll just post that one later. And, because it is now officially the Christmas season, I wanted to post Christmas-y nails. Here is Essie Leading Lady.

Two coats plus top coat. Flash.

Leading Lady is a red jelly polish with small red glitter suspended through it. It was easy to work with, a little gloopy but that was expected, and opaque in two coats. I also only put one coat of Seche Vite over it and it was relatively smooth.

And because I'm home, here is a pic of Bela looking pissed off...

NOTD 11/14/12: Deborah Lippmann Almost Paradise

Hello! Nothing special today, just a regular mani in a pretty color. This is Deborah Lippmann Almost Paradise from the Footloose duos last year.

Three coats plus top coat. Flash.
Fun fact: my nails match my dorm walls.

I really love this color, it's obnoxious and muted at the same time and it has a great formula. I actually wore it on Christmas last year under China Glaze Party Hearty.

On a side note, I've been having a lot of cuticle/hangnail emergencies lately. I apologize for the poor retouching on my pinky finger, but I can promise you it's better than looking my booboo right in the face.

Have a magical day and thanks for reading,
Lily

NOTD 11/10/12: Zoya Gilty

Happy Saturday! Today I am super excited to show you a new holiday set from Zoya that you've already seen. It's the Guilty Pleasures trio that includes Raven, Purity, and Gilty, Zoya's new gold flake top coat. I put Gilty over Raven for this manicure and I love it so much that I plan on wearing it over Purity soon.

Raven alone: two coats. Flash.

In order to get the amount of gold flakes in one coat that I did here, I had to put a pretty thick and gloopy coat of Gilty- obviously worth the trouble though. It settles after about 20 min, so wait before putting a topcoat on it to risk the flakes moving around and clumping each other.

NOTD 11/4/12: American Apparel Imperial Purple

Hello again! Yesterday, after looking at my post-hurricane nails, I thought they were beyond repair. Fortunately, a good nubbifying and cuticle clipping later and they're back to their former glory. After having on heavy glitter for the past few days, I decided to go with a nice creme polish. Here is American Apparel Imperial Purple.

Two coats plus top coat. Flash.

Imperial Purple is a dark, blue based purple creme. This is the third American Apparel polish I've tried and I'm officially in love. The formula is near perfect and the wear time is great. I'll definitely be picking up some more!

NOTD 11/03/12: Happy Halloween?

Happy belated Halloween, everybody! You can probably guess from the timing that it's belated because of the hurricane. I live in lower Manhattan, and my building was evacuated earlier this week, so unfortunately I didn't have my camera to upload pictures and post this manicure. I'm happy I was able to do Halloween nails at all! Even though Halloween was cancelled, these nails still kept me in the Halloween spirit. Here is China Glaze Fortune Teller.

One coat black, two coats Fortune Teller, plus top coat. Flash.
Flash.

Fortune Teller (as you probably know) is a black jelly with different sized orange glitter. I had always thought it was really rare and hard to find, but I picked it up on eBay for about $7. Score!

I really wanted to mattify this after wearing it glossy, but it was chipped and gross by the time I was allowed back in my dorm (and reunited with my collection) today. I'm going to remove the remains shortly after posting this.

I have family on Long Island and Staten Island and fortunately everyone is fine. I hope you all on the East Coast stayed safe during the hurricane and my heart goes out to those that suffered a loss.

NOTD 10/26/12: Zoya Feifei

Hello again! After my last manicure I remembered how much I love Zoya, so next I wanted to do a polish from their fall 2012 collection I hadn't tried out yet. Here is Feifei.

Three coats plus top coat. Flash.
Flash.
Flash.

You really can't appreciate how beautiful Feifei is. She is a so much more shiny, sparkly, and eye catching than I could capture on camera. Sometimes she is blue, sometimes grey, and sometimes both.  There is the most beautiful rainbow sparkle effect that you can really see in the last picture.

Formula was as expected- a little on the sheer side, but three thin coats covered decently.

I'm planning on changing my mani before halloween so I'll talk to you all soon.

NOTD 10/22/12: Zoya Ziv

Did you miss me? Probably not. You probably didn't even notice I was gone! Well, I was. And now I have a lovely new camera and I'M BACK.
Today I'm going to be sharing my latest manicure that I did yesterday, which happened to be my 19th birthday. I was planning on the obvious- Deborah's Happy Birthday- but deep down I knew that lazy me wouldn't want to remove it in a few days. I opted for a new shade from Zoya's Ornate collection for Winter 2012 with a similar wow factor. Here she is: Zoya Ziv.

Two coats plus top coat. Natural light.
Shade.
Flash.
Natural light.

Ziv is more than just a plain gold foil- she has textured gold pieces that really add an extra dimension to this polish. In some lights, she can look messy and bumpy because of the texture, but I don't mind. I think Ziv is a gorgeous polish- very holiday-esque.

The formula was great: thick, in a good way and opaque in two coats.
I also picked up Storm from this collection and the Gilty kit. Looking forward to posting those!

NOTD 8/21/12: Dermelect Luxurious

Hello everyone! It's been a while but I'm finally back at school and all moved into my dorm. Today I have a review of a polish brand I've never tried before: "ME" by Dermelect. Their claim to fame is their "peptide-infused nail colors".

See more photos!

NOTD 8/26/12: OPI German-icure

Happy Sunday, all! Today I finally used one of the OPI German polishes I picked up about two weeks ago- and I love it! This is OPI German-icure.

Two coats, two coats top coat. Flash.

German-icure is a vampy dark red shimmer with a great formula. It reminds me a lot of Illamasqua Scarab which is one of my favorite fall colors, but obviously OPI is a lot less expensive.

Sorry I'm being so short- Breaking Bad starts right now.

NOTD 8/19/12: China Glaze Loft-y Ambitions

Who else is sick of summer? I go back to school in less than two weeks and cannot wait to move back into my dorm. So, what better way to make the fall come faster than dark, vampy colors? Right now I'm wearing China Glaze Loft-y Ambitions from last year's Fall Metro Collection.

Two coats, one coat topcoat. Sunlight.

Loft-y Ambitions is a burgundy-wine color with a silver sheen. I don't know why I never wore this last year- I really like it. The formula was fine too, no complaints here!

NOTD 8/15/12: Zoya Natty

(Not so) happy Monday everyone, I hope you all had a good weekend! I've been putting off writing this because I'm busy as hell, but now that I've got another NOTD after this to write, I figured I might as well do it. Today's polish is Zoya Natty from the fall 2012 Designer Collection. I have one other polish from Zoya's fall 2012, but that one is from Diva. I'll probably get to that one soon, because it's gorgeous.

Two coats, one coat topcoat. Flash.

Natty is a smokey greyish blue creme- really nice for fall and per usual with Zoya it has a fantastic formula. There's nothing I dislike about this polish, I completely recommend it!

See her layered with CND Effects Amethyst Sparkle!

NOTD 8/12/12: Butter London Dosh

Are you sick of Butter London yet? I am. But let's get to today's NOTD anyway. This is Butter London Dosh, a sour apple/avocado green with golden shimmer. If you can hear the bitterness in my voice, it's because I'm still pissy about the formula.

Three coats, two coats topcoat. Sunlight.
Sunlight.

I am so disappointed in this polish. The formula was stringy and gloppy and just a nightmare. It would be a nice color if every time I looked at it I didn't remember how frustrated it made me.
However, my friend has this polish as well and has no problems with it. Maybe I'm just picky!

Because it's been a while..cat picture!

NOTD 8/10/12: Butter London Gobsmacked

Hello everyone! I'm in class right now but I wanted to quick post this NOTD seeing as how I've had it on for two days and am redoing my nails tonight :)
I hope you're not sick of Butter London after this because I snagged 3, including this one, in Nordstrom's buy two get one free sale. Here is Gobsmacked, which is new for fall 2012.

Two coats, two coats topcoat. Flash.
Sunlight.

Sunlight.

Gobsmacked is a charcoal grey glitter that is opaque in two coats. I am not kidding when I say that I thinned it 10+ times during application. Really. If you really feel like putting in the time and patience for this polish, go for it, but this isn't a particularly unique shade so it doesn't seem worth it on any level.
Out of all the ones I've tried, I'm going to just go ahead and declare Butter London glitters to be crap. They turn incredibly tacky and sticky and it's like applying glue to your nails. There are so much better and cheaper options for glitter out there, and there is no reason to spend $14 on a nail polish that just gives you a headache. Yes, there are polishes that I would put in the work for, but not this one.

NARS Outlaw Blush Swatches & Review

Happy Friday! I want to start off by saying that blush is my favorite kind of cosmetic.  It's my favorite step when doing my makeup in the morning.  I can never have enough blush- especially when NARS releases a new one.  I've had a soft spot for NARS blushes after I fell head-over-heals in love with Orgasm- the blush that made me love blush and still my all-time favorite (you should see the gigantic dent in mine).  Because of this, I had to pick up Outlaw, which is new for Fall 2012I'm glad I didn't listen to my friend who told me it was too dark for me and not to buy it...it is amazing.

NARS Outlaw Blush
  NARS Outlaw Blush

Okay, maybe it is a little dark, but with a light hand, fair skin tones like me can work with it and make it look great. It's perfect for fall and I am beyond excited to wear it.  The gold shimmer against the dark reddish pink makes it glowy and flawless on the skin. I love the how NARS puts shimmer in their blushes because it never looks unnatural or kiddish.
To sum it up, you should buy this. If you have a darker skin tone than me, you NEED to buy this. It would look incredible.

MAC Lipstick Haul & Review (By Request + others)

Hello! Today is very exciting and I'll tell you why- I finally own MAC Candy Yum Yum lipstick.  I can hardly believe it myself!  It was the only one I wanted from the By Request lipstick launch, but I picked up two other lipsticks I'd been eying anyway. Why not, right?

MAC Candy Yum Yum Lipstick (matte)
MAC Candy Yum Yum Lipstick
MAC Sheer Plum Lipstick (lustre)
MAC Sheer Plum Lipstick
MAC Syrup Lipstick (lustre)
MAC Syrup Lipstick

I LOVE Candy Yum Yum.  It's so bright and obnoxious and I can't wait to wear it.  It's also one of the only two matte lipsticks I own. I'm not crazy about matte lipsticks in general, but I couldn't pass this one up, especially after it got away from me last year.
I'm really getting into fall makeup lately, hence the two darker neutrals (at least for me) I picked up.  I'm very fair (NC 15) so these are almost a statement dark lip on me, especially Sheer Plum. They're both lustre finishes, my absolute favorite- I've made it my life's ambition to own all of MAC's permanent lustre lipsticks so I'm on my way. I think of the 30 or so MAC lipsticks I own, about 5 are finishes other than lustre...maybe less.

NOTD 8/7/12: Butter London Thames

Hi everyone! Today's NOTD is my favorite Butter London polish and one of my favorite polishes of all time. I don't love Butter London polishes all the time- all the glitters I've tried and some of the cremes are just not worth the price tag due to their formulas. Fortunately, this gorgeous jewel-toned metallic has a great formula that I never have problems with. Here is Butter London Thames.

Two coats plus topcoat. Natural light.
Flash.

Don't you just love how the duochrome came out in the flash?
I am obsessed with this polish- to me it's the perfect fall color. It's smokey and dark but bright and vibrant at the same time. And as I said before, I have no complaints on the formula!

See a bonus cat pic!

NOTD 8/1/12: Deborah Lippmann Today Was A Fairytale

Happy August! Today I have one of my favorite layering combinations in a long time: Deborah Lippman Today Was A Fairytale over Zoya Dove.

Two coats Dove, one coat Lippmann. Two coats top coat. Flash.

I apologize for my butchered index finger..I (like many have done before me) was foolish and cut my cuticle too low. After it finally stopped bleeding, I went in there and cleaned up with pure acetone..the sign of a true warrior. Obviously, I wouldn't recommend you do that. Just like I wouldn't recommend drinking nail polish remover- even though I've done that before too (it was an accident, I swear).

Anyway, this manicure makes me feel so fancy. Today Was A Fairytale has "virgin diamond powder" in it. I have no idea what that is, but I got to tell someone today that my nail polish was made of diamonds. It has a bluish-grey tint in the base which darkens the light grey shade of Zoya Dove. I love adding gold or beige glitter over neutral eyeshadows. This is kind of that concept in a manicure- neutral glitter- and I love it.

See a fierce cat pic...
