NOTD 7/29/12: China Glaze Jungle Queen

Hello again! It's pretty late (or at least I'm really tired) so I'm going to make this one quick. I wasn't even going to do my nails tonight, but I absolutely refuse to wear naked nails to work- I'm sure if you're reading this you can relate. Today I'm wearing China Glaze Jungle Queen from their On Safari collection for fall 2012.

Two coats, two coats top coat. Flash.
Jungle Queen is a dark grey-purple with bright pink and purple hidden shimmer. The formula was great, as are most China Glaze creams, two easy coats.
It is such a perfect fall color, I love it. I can't wait to wear dark, smoky, vampy colors like this 24/7 when the weather starts to turn. I definitely recommend it, for a twist on the grey-purple-beige shades every brand has a million versions of.

NOTD 7/24/12: Cookies & Creme

Hello! Today I have a super simple but really eye-catching and interesting manicure. It's a version of a "glitter and jelly sandwich", which you can achieve by layering a glitter polish between coats of a jelly or sheer polish. This makes the nail look multidimensional and SO COOL. I chose a white jelly polish, OPI Don't Touch My Tutu! and L.A. Girl Uninhibited to create a cookies and creme effect. Check it out!

Two coats DTMT!, one coat Uninbitited, two coats DTMT!, topcoat. Sunlight.
Almost reminds me of a Dalmatian's spots!

Don't Touch My Tutu is a white jelly and Uninhibited is a black glitter in a clear base with small and large hexagonal particles.

I really love this manicure. All of the OPI NYC Ballet shades are fantastic, so Don't Touch My Tutu! was a pleasure to work with. Uninhibited is one of my favorite glitters, it makes any manicure so interesting and badass. It is also super cheap ($2.99 I think, online) so it is definitely worth it! I find myself using it all the time over different polishes and always loving the results.

NOTD 7/21/12: OCC & CND Effects

Happy Saturday! I have a ton of homework to do today so I'll make this one fast. Today's NOTD is OCC Pool Boy (one of my all time favorites) topped with CND Effects Ice Blue Shimmer.

Two coats. Sunlight.
Here is Pool Boy on her own. She's a super bright, eye catching robin's egg blue with a fantastic and easy to work with formula. I actually just took Pool Boy off my toes today, I love her as a pedicure.
See her layered with CND Effects!

NOTD 7/18/12: Tacky Glitter Gradient

Hi! Today I have a perfect example of a mani gone wrong..probably one of the gaudiest and tackiest ones I've ever worn. The two polishes I used were OPI Elephantastic Pink and Rescue Beauty Lounge Locavore.
Two coats of Elephantastic Pink, Locavore, two coats of topcoat. Sunlight.
How beautiful is Locavore?

Elephatastic Pink is a super bright (but not neon) yellow based pink. Locavore is a mixture of light green, aqua, and magenta glitter in a clear base. Both are opaque in two coats.
I love both of these polishes separate..but what in the world made me want to put them together? Oh well, some combinations just don't work out. At least some people got a kick out of them, I hope you guys do too :)

NOTD 7/16/12: Yeah BITCH, magnets!

Hey everyone! I hope all of you watched the season 5 premiere of Breaking Bad last night, because it was AWESOME. I won't give anything away, but I totally recommend you all catch up on it or start watching if you haven't! It's one of my favorite TV shows of all time, so I decided to dedicate this manicure to the opening credits.

Excuse the tipwear..I've been wearing this for several days.

I know it's not perfect..but it's good enough for me. I want to start doing more nail art now that I'm feeling inspired.

NOTD 7/12/12: ManGlaze Fuck Off and Dye

Hi everyone! It's been such a long day today, following my late night (of painting my nails instead of sleeping) but I'm happy to show you one of the fastest, easiest, and (most importantly) most badass manicures you can wear. This is definitely a polish I can say I bought just for the name, but I'm so glad I did. Here she is: ManGlaze Fuck Off and Dye:

 Two coats.

Fuck Off and Dye is a matte medium pink with super dimensional shimmer. I have never had a matte nail polish apply this easy! Usually mattes drag and look ridged but FOaD applied like butter. Application was really controlled and barely required clean up. I have one more ManGlaze polish (Mayo, for layering purposes) but I can say with confidence I will buy more SOON.

See her glossy with a top coat!

Essie Mirror Metallics Swatches & Review

Hi everyone! Today, I have three polishes from Essie's new Mirror Metallics collection for fall. I was super excited for this collection because they looked like dupes for China Glaze's Khrome collection that came out a few years ago. I've tried to track all those polishes down but I'm still missing two, including Millennium (chrome silver) which I wanted the most :(. Khrome polishes are either unavailable even on eBay or sold for way more than retail price. I think I paid $20 for one and $15 for another ..ouch. A few are still available for cheap on etailers though.
BUT now there are exact (formula) dupes for them easily found in drugstores!
Nothing Else Metals. One coat, no top coat. Sunlight.
 Nothing Else Metals. Shade.
Penny Talk. One coat, no top coat. Sunlight.
Penny Talk. Shade.
No Place Like Chrome. Two coats, top coat. Sunlight.
No Place Like Chrome. Shade.
Nothing Else Metals is a chrome pale lavender.
Penny Talk is a chrome rose gold.
No Place Like Chrome is a chrome silver.
I am IN LOVE with these. They are 5 minute, go with everything, eye catching, attention grabbing polishes. All you need is one coat, no base coat, no top coat. That's it. I prefer not to use a base coat with these because they drag a lot and leave bald spots. They chip fast without a top coat, but if all you need is a quick mani for the night, no top coat is required.
I wore two coats and a top coat on NPLC is because I'm wearing it as a full mani right now :). As I'm typing I can't stop staring at it!
I bought mine at CVS for $8.49 each. They should be much cheaper on etailers but I personally couldn't wait for shipping to get my hands on them!

EOTD 7/8/12: Smokey Taupe and Green

Two posts in one day..yay! I've been really uninspired lately about doing my eye make up- no colors or new combinations. I've just been using my MAC neutral palettes over and over again (let me know if you want a post/swatches of those) and I keep doing the same looks. Today I said to myself "no more!" and pulled out my Urban Decay BOS II and my MAC color palette. Here's what I came up with:

NOTD 7/8/12: Orly Preamp

Happy Sunday, everyone! I hope you all had a wonderful holiday. Today's NOTD is from Orly's fall 2012 collection, Electronica. Only one color from the collection caught my eye, and I'm so glad I picked it up. May I present: Preamp.

Shown is two coats plus topcoat. Sunlight.

Preamp is described by Orly as a "girly pink with gold shimmer". It is a dusty blue pink with shimmer that looks to me like red or hot pink shimmer, but sometimes looks gold. This polish is AMAZING. It's so unique and glows from within like it's on fire. Just look at the last picture! So beautiful.
The formula was decent, a little thick but I thinned it before working with it to make it easier.
I picked Preamp up at Sally's and right after headed to Ulta. Ulta had the rest of the collection fully stocked but Preamp was sold out.

NOTD 7/4/12: Rescue Beauty Lounge IKB: 2012

Happy fourth to my fellow Americans! To the rest of the world...happy 11 days until Breaking Bad comes back! Maybe I'll do a BrBa mani when the time comes...
I hope you're having a lovely day and plan on seeing some fireworks later. I know I am! I've been pretty uninspired lately in terms of doing nail art so I just painted my nails a patriotic bright blue jelly polish: Rescue Beauty Lounge IKB: 2012 from The Fan Collection.

Two thick coats plus top coat (shade)
 (source: Google images)

I'm going to get right to the point: this polish is a pain in the ass. But it is also AMAZING and completely worth it. The formula is sticky and applies like glue: uneven, gloopy, and stringy. I must have thinned it four or five times during application. However, this is my second time wearing it on my nails and I've worn it on my toes before so you can see that I am still willing to work with it for the incredible results.
It is the most insane blue I've ever seen. It's bright and dark at the same time and makes such a statement. It's sold out right now on Rescue Beauty but I would count on it being part of a BIB soon. RBL polishes cost $20.

NOTD 7/3/12- Layla Hologram Effect 08 Flash Black

Happy almost 4th! I'm planning on re-doing my nails later tonight to something more patriotic but I wanted to share with you a last minute manicure I did last night before going out. This is Layla Hologram Effect Nail Polish in #08 Flash Black.

Shown is Nfu Oh Aqua Base, two coats of Flash Black, and top coat
Flash Black is a linear charcoal holographic. It's not quite as smooth as the popular China Glaze OMG collection, which I own a few polishes from, the particles are bigger and it looks more pixelated.
I've had this polish for a while and have been meaning to use it. The reason I picked it up last night is because I had about 30 minutes to do my nails before seeing Magic Mike with my friends (which I 100% recommend) and holographic polishes dry lightening fast. The formula was easy to work with after using a base coat of Nfu Oh Aqua Base, which is specifically designed for holo polishes. You can buy it at
I know I basically committed a sin by putting a top coat over a holo but it would have chipped within an hour if I hadn't. Flash Black lasted overnight before starting to chip in the morning.
Overall, I love this polish but I don't love the wear time. I'll continue to use it as a quick on-the-go mani but that's all. Layla Hologram Effect Polishes are available at Ulta for $15.50.

MAC Heavenly Creatures Haul & Swatches

Hi! Today I have a small haul of my picks from MAC's latest collection, Heavenly Creatures. It comes into stores on July 5th (I think) but is available now online. I picked up two lipsticks and one MSF.
Cusp of Dawn and Venus Lipsticks
 Cusp of Dawn Lipstick
Venus Lipstick
Cusp of Dawn and Venus

Cusp of Dawn and Venus are both lustre finishes, as well as the other 2/3 lipsticks in this collection. Lustre is my absolute favorite finish and I will buy any Lustre finish lipstick MAC releases (I will probably wind up purchasing the other two from this collection soon). They're moisturizing and have buildable color which is really important to me in a lipstick. Probably 95% of my MAC lipsticks are lustres.
Cusp of Dawn is a beige-y nude with noticeable shimmer that translates well on the lips. It's the perfect nude for me because it isn't too pink and looks completely natural (except for the shimmer). The reason I bought this is because it reminded me (and upon investigation, is almost an exact dupe) of MAC's Lush Amber from the Semi-Precious Collection last fall. It is my all time favorite nude and I've been searching for a dupe in fear of running out of it.
Venus is a medium pink with gold shimmer. The shimmer in Venus isn't as noticeable as in Cusp of Dawn. I don't have anything like this in my collection so I was really excited to pick it up. It's very wearable for me but not too boring.

Light Year Mineralize Skinfinish
Light Year Mineralize Skinfinish
Light Year Mineralize Skinfinish
Heavy swatch, blended swatch of Light Year

Light Year MSF is a light shimmery peach with pink and golden bronze swirled in it. I bought this because I thought it would be light enough to use as a highlight but alas I am too pale. However, I love it as a blush on my skin tone. It is soft and glow-y without being too shimmery or sparkly.
The one complaint I had was that it was really powdery. When I put my brush in, a dust of product flew up and there was a ton of excess powder everywhere.

Overall, I love what I have of the collection and definitely will check out the rest of it in person when it hits stores in a few days.
